The Coimbatore Golf Course is one of the best golf courses in India. It was founded in 1977 by Mr. Rajagopal and a few of his golfing buddies, who wanted to create a golfing facility in their hometown. They acquired a piece of land from the government and started to build the course with their own hands.

The golf course is located in Chettipalayam, 17 km from the city center of Coimbatore. It is set at the base of the Nilgiri Mountains, in a valley surrounded by mountains. The course is an 18-hole, par 72 course, with a total length of 6,973 yards.

The course is flat and open, with no elevation changes or big trees. However, it has its own defense: the wind. The wind blows through the Palakkad Gap, a major mountain pass between the two mountain ranges. The wind can change direction and speed at any time, making every shot a challenge.

One of the most memorable holes on this course is the 8th hole, a 477 yards par 4 that is the signature hole of the course. This hole requires a long and accurate drive to avoid the water on the left and the out-of-bounds on the right. The second shot is equally demanding, as you have to hit over another water hazard to reach the green, which is guarded by two bunkers on either side. The green itself is large and sloping, so you have to be careful with your putt.
